We all know that light can help us see. However, nowadays humans are using too much of light so that light actually becomes a kind of pollution.
For example, when we watch the night sky, too much light makes it difficult for us to see some most wonderful sights in our life: stars, planets and beautiful meteors.
Based on(根据) some scientific researches, about 2, 500 stars can be seen by human eyes without using any special equipment(设备). But as the result of the light pollution, we could only see 200 to 400 stars from the countryside, and less than twenty stars from a city. In some big cities, people may never see a sky filled with stars like they did when they are children.
Light pollution have bad effects on more than just our view of sky. The research shows that lots of light in the night could do harm to wildlife, too.
When birds fly over cities for moving to another place, they sometimes lose their way by the brightness and fly in circles(圆圈) until they drop because of tiredness. Sea turtles need dark beaches to lay their eggs, but they can’t find ideal places with those bright lights.
Too much light at night may even harm human health, but scientists are not sure of that. They are still doing more researches to prove(证明) that.
Fortunately, governments and some social organizations are trying to reduce(减少) light pollution in order to prevent things from going worse. Many cities and towns have taken strong measures to reduce the use of lights at night. Lights now are used only when and where they are really needed. Besides these, people also shine lights down at the ground instead of up into the sky and use lower brightness levels.
Maybe in the near future humans could see the clear and beautiful sky again and I hope that all the wildlife may live a peaceful and undisturbed life.
