I think college graduates usually get more interesting jobs, so I decidedto go to university to have a better future. Studying for a degree was one ofthe best experiences of my life. I loved my subject, and now I’m looking for anew job --- better-paid and more interesting than my last one.
Hello, I am Kitty.I left school at sixteen and started working in a market. Now I’ve just openedmy first shop. Some of my friends who went on to university can’t find workalthough they had a good time at college for a few years. I really don’t knowwhy they still stayed in college. Working for oneself is the best education.
Hi, there, myname’s Jack. I was very surprised when I got my first job after graduation fromuniversity. My boss had been in the same class as me at school! She wentstraight into work at eighteen and now she’s making more money than me!Actually, she wants to go to university now. And I think perhaps that’s a muchbetter way. Many earthquakes happen every year. Some of theseearthquakes are very strong. When they happen in cities, they can be veryserious. Many people will be hurt or die in the earthquakes. Knowing some waysto protect yourself will help to keep you safe in the earthquake.
If you are indoors when the earthquake happens, thesafest place is under a strong table or desk. Sitting on the floor in a doorwayor close to a wall is safer than standing in the middle of a room. Remember toprotect your head and neck with your arms. Stay away from windows and tallfurniture or anything thatmay fall on you. Do not try to run out of the building.
If you are out of doors, move to open areas where thereare no buildings or trees. Be very careful of fallen power lines.
The danger is not over when the strong shaking stops. There will be some shocks after most earthquakes. We call them aftershocks andthey sometimes can be more dangerous than the first earthquake.
When it is safe for you to move around, check the peoplenear you. Some may need help. You may feel afraid, but you should try to staycalm. That is the most important thing to do in the earthquake.
