was / were going to do (be)

①过去本打算，但没做成

--- Tom, you didn't come to the party last night. --- I was going to, but I suddenly remembered I had homework to do.

②迹象表明(宾从)

I thought it was going to rain.

was / were to do

①计划要做，执行与否未知

I felt nervous because I was soon to go abroad for the first time.

②命中注定

They said goodbye, not knowing that they were never to meet again.

was / were to have done (been) 计划要做……，没能实现

We were to have invited you, but you were on your business trip. = We would have invited you, but you were on your business trip.

The results were to have been announced yesterday, but till now we have heard nothing. = The results should have been announced yesterday, but till now we have heard nothing.

was / were about to do… (when…)

=was / were on the point of… (when…) 正要…(就…)

I saw the soup was about to boil over, so I turned the gas off.
