饭：meal和dinner

1. meal是一日三餐的通称，它通常用作可数名词。如:

We have our evening meal at about a quarter past six.我们大约6点15分吃晚饭。

2. dinner是个比较正式的词，常指一天中的一次正餐。说请某人吃饭时，常用invite sb.

to dinner。注意:在at dinner, to dinner, before dinner, after dinner等短语里，dinner前没有定冠词。如:

Let's go and have dinner together.咱们一起去吃饭。

问题：problem和question

1. problem指客观存在的并有待解决的问题，也可指引起麻烦或困难的人或事，还指数学方面的问题。有时可与question换用。如:

I come face to face with a new problem.我面临一个新问题。

He was thinking about a math problem.他正在思考一个数学问题。

2. question指主观存在的疑虑、疑问，可指因疑虑或不能断定而提出要求答复或解决的问题，也可指为获得信息或检测某人的知识而设计的问题，还可指需要考虑、讨论的问题。“回答问题”是answer a question,“解决问题”是solve a problem。如:

May I ask you a question?我可以问你一个问题吗?

Who can answer the questions right and in the shortest time will win the game.谁能在最短时间内正确回答这些问题，将在游戏中获胜。

路：road, street, way

1. road意为“道路、路”，指供车辆或行人通过的大道，两侧一般没有房子。如:

The car is running along the road.汽车正沿着这条道路行驶。

2. street意为“街道”，指两边有房屋的道路。“在街上”可以说on the street，也可以说in the street。如:

There are many shops on the street.这条街上有许多商店。

3. way意为“道路”，指抽象或具体的道路。“问路”译作ask the way。如:

I asked the way to the station.我打听了去车站的路。

It was a long way from here.从这里去路程远。

城市：city和town

1. city意思是“城市、都市”，指大城市。如:

I live in a tall building in the city of Beijing.我住在北京的一幢高楼里。

2. town意思是“城镇”，比较小。如:

He was born in a little town near Zhengzhou City.他出生在郑州市附近的一个小镇里。

旅行：travel, trip, journey, tour

1. travel多指长期或长途的观光旅行，它无确定的目的地，有“到各地游历”的意思。它表示具体的旅行时常用复数形式。如:

Did you go to Beihai during your travels?这次旅行你去北海了吗?

2. trip通常指往返定时的短途旅行，如出差及游览度假等。往往暗含旅程包括回到出发地。如:

I took several trips to Yunnan. 我去过云南好几次。

They made a trip to Sanya last summer.他们去年夏天到三亚旅游去了。

3. journey一般指在陆地上进行的长途旅行，常表示所花的时间及路程都相当长，而且有最终不一定要回到出发地的含义，常蕴含路途辛苦的意味。如:

He decided to make his journey to Canada.他决定去加拿大旅行。

4. tour指途中作短期逗留的巡回旅行，强调游览多处，常用来指观光与商业旅行等。如:

There came a party of businessmen on a tour.来了一个商人观光团。

He made a three-day tour to Hong Kong.他们去香港进行一次三日游。
